About the Journal

The International Journal of Legal Studies, Institutions, and Governance (IJLSIG) is an international, peer-reviewed, and open-access scholarly journal published by PT Darma Cendekia Pustaka, Indonesia. The journal was established by academics and legal practitioners committed to advancing legal scholarship, strengthening institutions, and contributing to legal and governance reform through rigorous academic writing.

Foundational Concern

IJLSIG originates from a common concern regarding the continuing gap between law as formally enacted, law as interpreted and applied, and law as it ought to be. The development of legal thought, the increasing complexity of public and private institutions, and persistent challenges in governance and law enforcement require legal scholarship that does more than merely describe existing rules.

Legal scholarship must also examine how legal norms operate in practice, evaluate the institutions responsible for implementing them, identify structural and institutional weaknesses, and offer academically grounded proposals for improvement.

Scholarly Focus and Dimensions

Accordingly, IJLSIG provides a scholarly forum for the study of legal problems in their normative, theoretical, institutional, and practical dimensions. The journal publishes research concerning:

  1. The meaning and development of law;
  2. The application and enforcement of legal norms;
  3. The design and performance of state institutions;
  4. The relationship among branches and organs of government;
  5. Judicial and administrative institutions;
  6. Public and corporate governance; and
  7. The formulation of future law capable of responding to social, political, economic, and technological change.

The Role of Institutions

The journal views institutions as an essential element in the functioning of law. Legal norms cannot achieve justice, certainty, and public benefit without institutions that possess clear authority, accountable governance, professional capacity, and respect for the rule of law.

IJLSIG therefore encourages scholarship that critically examines institutional mandates, the distribution and exercise of public authority, inter-institutional relations, accountability mechanisms, and the effectiveness of institutions in performing their constitutional and statutory responsibilities.

National Focus and Global Perspective

IJLSIG pays particular attention to the development of Indonesian law and institutions in accordance with the constitutional aspirations of the Republic of Indonesia and the ideals of justice envisioned by the founders of the nation.

At the same time, the journal welcomes comparative, international, and interdisciplinary perspectives that may enrich legal and institutional development in Indonesia and contribute to broader global legal discourse.

Public Responsibility of Legal Scholarship

IJLSIG believes that legal scholarship carries a public responsibility. Academic writing should not remain detached from the problems experienced by society. It should clarify legal concepts, critically evaluate laws and institutions, strengthen the rule of law, and formulate constructive solutions that promote justice, legal certainty, public accountability, democracy, human dignity, and the public interest.

Welcomed Contributions

The journal welcomes original research articles, theoretical and doctrinal studies, comparative legal analyses, empirical legal research, institutional studies, and interdisciplinary scholarship from academics, researchers, legal practitioners, judges, public officials, policymakers, and other professionals concerned with law, institutions, and governance.

Commitment to Standards

IJLSIG is committed to academic independence, research integrity, fair and objective peer review, responsible publication practices, and the open dissemination of legal knowledge. The journal is published in English and seeks to connect Indonesian legal scholarship with regional and international academic communities.
